Synopsis
In the winter, as a father, I left home and returned to my hometown alone with movie equipment and an elderly actor. We were shooting a film about a young man searching for his father who had suddenly disappeared, with the elderly actor playing the father and me as the young man. Midway through the movie, my own father, with whom I had severed ties for years, unexpectedly appeared at his cabin in the mountains where we were stationed.
TU Hailun
From 2016 to 2021, TU Hailun established the Mosquito Bite Film Group in Beijing to explore children's film education. During this period, he organized film screenings for children in villages and promoted film knowledge. His directorial works include THE DREAMER IN THE JUNGLE, MOONLIGHT DETECTIVE, and NEZHA AND FATHER. TU is also the author of a trilogy of children's literature titled THE ADVENTURES OF TU GUAGUA. His screenwriting credits include THE DREAMER IN THE JUNGLE, THE DANCING EAGLE, THE ANGRY DRAGON, and LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD'S WOLF.
Director's statement
This film is part of the Father Series. It was shot using multiple cameras simultaneously. I would place a camera along my father’s usual path and then leave to continue shooting the feature film. This approach created a video trap to capture his movements naturally, resulting in a static yet authentic atmosphere.
