The post epidemic era and the downturn of the overall economy in recent years have made life difficult for many people, and I am no exception. I was enveloped by a kind of tired and anxious mood, so I had to find a way to calm myself down. After trying some methods, I finally found that going to the library to read and write is a good choice, because it is filled with a calm and peaceful temperament, with impetuousness and anxiety blocked out. Even if the people who went there were just sleeping or playing with their mobile phones, they revealed a different peace from the outside world, and it seemed that many people were gradually healed without knowing it. Online loans come into my field of vision, It is a piece of news linked to the death of young people in debt, and the problems that arise behind it arouse my thinking. Our story originated from the non-fiction network novel BLACK LOAN, adapted based on our undercover experience in the online lending circle so far. I chose a real perspective, through this false hard repeater and a‘lie flat' boy, tied the group of the same contrasting teenagers into a family, through the cross-section of the social relationship between online loans and people, it shows people's anxiety about money, as well as the confusion and powerlessness of young people. There were beast and monster, maze and moat, frost and other crises along the way. As time goes by, Ranbiwa learnt how to walk upright and felt the glamour of the fire. Finally, he arrived at the cave in the Holy Mountain. There were White Stones laying in the fire. He was aware of the secret of "warmth" at that moment. Li Wenyu, mentored by Ma Kexuan, got his Master Degree of Computer Graphic Creation in Peking University. Inspired by the ancient myth of Qiang. The aesthetic of the story is plain, primitive and wild.Therefore, we choose to use the traditional Chinese painting style to present the film. Director's Statement:

When I was 11, Dad was diagnosed as the late stage of stomach cancer. Since then, I have been trying my best to be the top student in school and in real life, as Mom’s enjoinder. 10 years later, cancer reappeared and took Dad’s life shortly after three months. During the 10 years of him struggling with illness, the only silver lining in his life was when I got into Peking University. On that day, he drank as an exception. Before he passed away, he put a bank card on my hand, encouraging me to study film abroad. Instead, I stayed to take care of Mom.
And that’s 10 years ago. Now I finally nerve myself to write down what happened to me and my family: during her summer, an 11-year-old girl goes through a series of catastrophe in her family yet nobody gives her the reason to everthing behind. The reason I present the narrative through a young girl’s perspective is to plant the film in a delicate and natural experience without too much catharsis for the audience and for myself. Thus, this is a work of bluring the border of fiction and documenting with a faithful, honest and emotional touch.
In this film, I compress my memories and sensibiliy into a specific summer, as a commemoration to Dad and myself.

Director Yuan Yuan

YUAN Yuan is a Chinese writer-director. Her short films won Best Student Film at 25th DGA Student Film Award, Best Student Film at Palm Springs, Jury Prize at Hong Kong International Film Festival etc. Currently, she is developing her first feature project, LATE SPRING, which has been selected by Sundance Screenwriters & Directors Labs, FIRST International film festival financing forum, while it won Best Young Talent Project at Shanghai International Film Festival in China. Before grad school, Yuan worked for director Wuershan as AD, and producer Bill Kong in film development. Yuan holds an MFA degree from NYU Tisch Grad Film Program.

Director's Statement:

More and more Asian parents send their kids abroad for better education. Many students come to the U.S. at a young age without any parental supervision. The feeling of alienation and disconnection can lead to depression, and some of them even suffer from substance abuse, gambling and violence. I can’t stop thinking if any of these happens to me, what my mother would have to go through. That's how I started to write this story.

Director's Statement:

The story is inspired by a real report I saw in the early days, and the real experience of me and the screenwriter as a teenager. This is a story about deceit, lie and pretend to be dead. I want to use this black humor and even some absurd story to express two points: 1. Human nature is evil, or human nature has become evil due to changes in the surrounding environment and things? 2. In the story, there is no good person in the strict sense and no absolute bad person. The so-called good or bad is nothing more than a change of perspective. I hope that through this story, everyone can think about people and their behavior.

Director's Statement:

As a former athlete, I have always wanted to write a story about teenager athletes fighting for their dreams. The competition is cruel, there is only one winner, and sometimes it seems in our culture that only winning and working nonstop are worth applauding, while the reality is many kids fails to be the winner, stopping in the middle of the treacherous journey either willingly or unwillingly. However, their passion for their dreams can be equally fervent, their stories of pursuit equally inspiring. Our film tells the story of two girls training in the local gymnastics team, growing up together and influencing each other. By throwing light on the two passionate, restless teenagers, I want to sing a eulogy for the many young, grinding athletes.

Zhang Chengdong, Liu Yutong and Wang Zihao are three 10-year-old migrant children in Baishizhou. In July 2019, Baishizhou’s old reforms put three families in three situations. Zhang Chengdong’s parents plan to send Chengdong to a private elementary school due to business damage; Zihao’s parents plan to send Zihao to school in Hong Kong after receiving compensation for demolition. Yutong, who lives with her mother, has difficulty finding a suitable house because of her mother's various experiences. It is hoped that by telling the story of a few children bidding farewell in the summer vacation in a real context, in order to complete the refinement and care of "a kind of reality" - China is a mobile China, and people take their children from county towns to provincial towns. From the provincial capital to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, a modernization and renewal of the city pierced this illusion of mobility.
