Synopsis
20 years ago, Shengli had an affair with Sia. Feeling shameful, Sia’s mother accused Shengli of rape, causing Shengli to be imprisioned for 20 years. The film starts with Shengli being released. He finds Sia, who is now a nanny in Beijing. When confronting Sia, Shengli, still in love with her, is persuaded into kidnapping the boy Sia is taking care of. When getting along with the seemingly retarded boy, what he has experienced in the past 20 years is unraveled.
Wang Yichun
Wang Yichun was born in 1977 and subsequently graduated with a degree in French. In 2015, her debut feature film WHAT'S IN THE DARKNESS, which she wrote, directed and produced herself, was nominated or awarded at more than thirty international film festivals. These included the generation section of the 66th Berlinale, BFI London and Shanghai IFF. The film was publicly released in China in October 2016.
