CAI SHANGJUN
Cai Shangjun graduated from China Central Academy of Drama in 1992. He worked as a director for Avant-garde Drama in 1998, PAVEL KORCHAGIN, adapted from a novel of Pre-Soviet Union, which garnered success in the theatre world. In the late 1990’s, he worked as a scriptwriter for the films SPICY LOVE SOUP, SHOWER and SUNFLOWER. In the following years, he wrote and directed his own films. In 2007, THE RED AWN was awarded FIPRESCI Prize in 12th Pusan International Film Festival, Golden Alexander Award for Best Film in 48th Thessaloniki International Film Festival, Jury Grand Prize, and The 2nd Asia Pacific Screen Award. In 2011, PEOPLE MOUNTAIN PEOPLE SEA was awarded Silver Lion Award for Best Director in The 68th Venice International Film Festival, Silver Montgolfiere D’Argent Award in Nantes Three Continents Festival, 2011 Critics Prize in Black Movie Film Festival, and 2012Grand Prix Award in The 10th Pacific Meridian International Film Festival of Asia Pacific Countries. In 20th Shanghai International Film Festival, Huang Bo won The best Actor Award in THE CONFORMIST directed by Cai.
